Due to major construction works in the region to facilitate the mining sector growth coupled with a number of other long term investments, the city’s population is projected to double over the next 20 years. The Sustainable Growth Plan which will be submitted in late 2011 will help facilitate this growth and one of the main aims will be for the city to have the capacity to sustain a population of 80,000 to 100,000 by 2020.

With a strong Sustainable and Environmental focus and an emphasis on urban design, the role will offer a unique opportunity to an experienced Transport Planner with knowledge on Sustainable Transport Planning. You be responsible for the Integrated Transport Planning team and involved in developing a number of Sustainable Transport Planning schemes that will include:

  • Active Transport Planning (Walking/Cycle Planning)
  • Integrated Transport and Land Use Planning
  • Public Transport Planning
  • Strategic local and regional transport plan development
  • City Centre/District Development Schemes

Management Structure

Answering to the Manager of Infrastructure Planning & Design, the successful individual will be responsible for the management of a small team consisting of Travel Behavioural Change Planners and Transport Officers and working closely with the Urban Design and Placemaking team. Key attributes will include the ability to develop a cohesive team environment and be able to deliver to deadlines whilst ensuring top quality work.

People with experience in Sustainable Transport Planning are of great interest and the Council is in a position to provide sponsorship, however due to the timescales involved in visa approval and relocation those people who wish to be considered must be in a position to consider relocation within the next four months.
